This time last year, Oliver Schapiro sat down with us to review his first summer internship with Windsor Resources. Now, as his 2nd summer with Windsor comes to a close, he has a few things to say about deadlines, college and buying his own concert tickets.
1. How was this summer different from the last?
Last year was my first year so I was getting acclimated and I was working on a lot of beginner assignments and busy work. This year my projects had a higher level of urgency and I had deadlines, which was something new. Last year things were a little more lenient but this year I was treated more as an
2. Do you think your experience from last summer made this year easier for you?
Absolutely. I felt very comfortable coming back to Windsor. It was easier because I was used to the company culture and that hasn’t changed. Everyone here is productive but there’s always a joke or two and I feel like I fit in.
3. How do you feel about working in the summer? Do any of your friends have summer jobs as well?
A lot of my friends have jobs this summer so it’s something we all have in common. It’s a lot of responsibility but it pays off because now we get to go out more. I went to my first concert this summer and I was able to pay for it myself. It definitely gives you self-pride and self-confidence when you’re working for something.
4. Last year, you said you learned a lot about staffing companies and how they operate. What’s something you’ve learned this year?
I’ve learned about professionalism and structure and I think I have more of an understanding about how a staffing company actually works. I felt like I had a grip on the basic stuff like recruiters, interviews, and filling jobs but I didn’t realize the intricacies of everything. I also had the opportunity to sit in on client meetings and learn about budgets and Windsor’s different departments.
5. Do you have any advice for younger students interested in interning?
I would say to do something you’re interested in and it’s not all about how much money you can make.
6.What are your goals for the coming year?
I’m going to be a senior so the main goal is to get into college. I’m looking forward to having a good time but senior year means a lot of work, too. I’ll also do more community service at my local church coaching kids with sports. I really like helping the kids because I looked up to the older teams when I was younger and I remember the older kids helping us with our swing. That’s something I really want to do before I go off to college.
